A letter to Alaina

Dear niece, I want to take a moment to remind you of the unwavering love and support that your parents and our family have for you. Our advice stems from a wealth of experience, and it is rooted in our genuine hope for your happiness and success. I have mentioned before how I see you excelling in life and your studies to become a cardiothoracic surgeon, and I believe that focusing on your education before entering into relationships will serve you well. You have a bright and promising future ahead, filled with countless opportunities, so I encourage you to remain dedicated and protect the path you are creating for yourself. You have a bright future ahead of you, filled with possibilities, so stay focused and protect that promising path. Love Aunt Michelle 🤍

Alaina 2026 High School Senior

Yesterday I had a wonderful time with a beautiful senior who’s very special to me. My niece Alaina.

We went to Lexington shopping for her outfits. Which is always a fun time for me because what girl doesn’t love to shop? I love to shop. We hit up Ross and Marshalls to pull the outfit together. She tried on several outfits. Here is a few.

Cute and would be perfect for a fall session.

Cute and we bought it for another session in the fall.
This blue jean romper was adorable on her and it was perfect for our vision.

After a super fun day of picking out the perfect outfit for our theme, it was time to head home and get her all dolled up! I may not be a pro at hair or makeup, but I gave it my best shot for Alaina’s look this session. You know what they say, “Maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s Maybelline” — some people just have that natural beauty!

Yes we’re at the laundromat!!!

My mom took a pic of Alaina when she was an infant in the basket and ever since that day I’ve been wanting to do a remake of her as a senior. I wish my mom was still here to see how beautiful she is in that same old laundry mat seventeen years later.

Laundry mat still has these vintage rolling baskets
So many cool ideas here
Loving that vintage look

I hope you’ve enjoyed my post. Please leave a comment.

Teen Photo Sessions are My Favorite

As a passionate photographer, nothing excites me more than witnessing the incredible transformation that teens undergo in front of my camera. Yet, as a devoted mom, I truly grasp the daily challenges of instilling courage and confidence in our children. We pour our hearts into reminding them of their uniqueness and encouraging authenticity, but there are times when our efforts seem to fizzle. After all, we are moms—we’re supposed to believe they shine the brightest (and they absolutely do!). If you’re yearning for opportunities to surround them with uplifting praise and allow them to feel their absolute best, or perhaps unveil a beauty they’ve yet to recognize, a personalized photo session is a marvelous avenue to explore! Whether you have a tween, a teen, or a high school senior, a photo shoot can work wonders to elevate her confidence in countless ways.

When she is able to be herself and wear what makes her feel amazing, it will show in the photos. Knowing that her wants won’t be ignored or that she’ll be forced to wear what everyone else wears or what’s trendy makes her feel confident in her choices of what she likes

She’ll learn how to be comfortable with herself

Being in front of the camera can feel intimidating—I completely understand those moments of hesitation when someone asks to take a photo. However, I’ve witnessed how, with the right guidance and reassurance, she begins to relax gradually throughout the session. It’s a beautiful transformation as she finds the courage to be herself and step out of her shell. My heart warms when I see young girls’ authentic personalities shine through during these sessions; it’s truly my favorite part of the experience!

Having fun and feeling like a million bucks is such a delight! But you know what makes it even better? Turning the camera around and seeing her face light up when she sees herself! It’s a wonderful moment where she gets to view herself through the eyes of others, rather than judging herself by a not-so-great angle or terrible lighting. She can see how beautiful she looks when she laughs and the charm of a genuine smile. And how about that adorable little crinkle in her nose right before she giggles? It’s those little things that can make her heart flutter!

And let’s talk about trying something new—sometimes it can feel a bit scary!

When was the last time you faced something that made you a little nervous but ended up making you feel unstoppable? There’s something so special about tackling fears head-on, and for teens, trying something new can feel like a huge accomplishment. If she walks into a session feeling a bit anxious (which is perfectly normal), just wait until it’s over! When she’s had a blast and sees how amazing she looks, you can bet it will give her self-esteem a wonderful boost.

I have had the joy of photographing Payton every year since she was about 3 years old. In those early days, her annual Halloween costume was the highlight of our sessions, and she always surprised me with her creative choices! Now that she’s growing into a beautiful young lady, I admire how she confidently takes the reins with her posing. I love the challenge of doing something different each time, stepping off the beaten path together. This year, we were fortunate to capture the stunning fall trees in Northern Harrison County, creating memories that I will cherish forever.

Creating Lasting Memories: Fall Photo Ideas For Couples | Cynthiana, KY

Last night, I spent some time with this lovely couple, who are very near and dear to my heart: my Uncle Scotty and Aunt Tina. It’s not very often in this busy world that we take time to do something together. Aunt Tina called me because she wanted pictures taken of them since she hadn’t done any in a while.

The weather provided an excellent backdrop for the shoot, with vibrant colors complemented by the soft glow of the golden hour along the horizon. I guided them into different poses, and it was heartwarming to see how they took it all in stride. Through out the session, they maintained their smiles and truly enjoyed each other’s company. It was a wonderfully relaxing experience for everyone involved.

They have been happily married for 38 years, and I had the honor of being the flower girl at their beautiful wedding. It’s special to me that Tina and I share such a significant connection—I was born on her birthday. Our bond feels even more meaningful because of this shared moment in time. I have such fond memories of spending many summers at my cousins’ house on the farm. Those days were truly special, and I cherished every moment I spent there each summer. It’s heartwarming to see how the three boys they raised have grown into such wonderful men, each with their own families. It’s a beautiful reminder of the love and connection that spans generations.

Tina asked me for advice on what to wear for their photoshoot. She wanted to start in a dress and then change into jeans and a blouse later. I offered her some suggestions for choosing her outfits.

Layered clothing is essential for a fall photoshoot since the weather can change unexpectedly. Couples can wear flannels, cardigans, and light sweaters to stay warm while adding depth to their outfits. For example, pairing a flannel shirt with a plain sweater creates a nice, balanced look. Coordinating layers will help achieve a cohesive and pleasing appearance. Additionally, incorporating different textures, such as knits or denim, can make the outfits more interesting.

Choose colors that go well together but still let each person stand out. Avoid patterns that are too busy, so they don’t take attention away from the couple. Layering also helps with different poses and backdrops, making the photos more versatile.

I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post. Please leave a comment and check out my other posts.

When Is The Best Time To Take Family Pictures: Fall Family Photography Session 2024

I’ve got an exciting secret to share: fall is absolutely the BEST time for family portraits! You won’t believe the stunning colors in Kentucky – it’s like Mother Nature is putting on a dazzling show just for us!

I’ll be honest with you: I LOVE fall photoshoots! Choosing fall as the backdrop for your family photos is more than capturing a moment in time; it’s about creating timeless memories cherished for generations. The vibrant colors, the enchanting atmosphere, and the natural beauty will forever transport you back to that specific season in your family’s journey—a moment you will always hold dear.

The Best Time for Fall Photography

When planning the ideal time for a fall photoshoot, it’s crucial to consider the fleeting beauty of autumn foliage. The vibrant colors that transform our surroundings can vary dramatically from week to week. One moment, you may be driving along a scenic route, captivated by the breathtaking oranges, reds, and yellows, while the next, those brilliant leaves are dropping to the ground, leaving behind bare branches. To capture the essence of fall at its peak, it’s wise to research local foliage reports and track the changing colors as the season progresses. Typically, mid to late October is when you’ll see the most vivid displays, but this can shift depending on weather conditions. Planning your shoot around this timeline ensures that you have the best chance to seize the stunning autumn palette before it’s gone.

Fall session with these cute siblings

As the days grow shorter and the temperatures begin to cool, nature begins its beautiful transformation.

If you’re unable to schedule your photo session during this timeframe, there’s no need to be concerned! You can arrange your fall foliage photo session either earlier or later. Just be sure to dress comfortably according to the weather conditions. Regardless of the timing, there will be beautiful golden hues to appreciate both before and after the peak color season tones!

Love family interactions with their children

As you plan your fall foliage photo session, consider incorporating some local Kentucky traditions and activities into your shoot. How about starting off the afternoon with apple picking at a nearby orchard or pumpkin patch, then stopping by a scenic spot for photos? Planning something for your kids to look forward to either before or after the photoshoot makes things flow a little smoother – and keeps everyone smiling. Regardless of your activity, doing something together – and creating those new memories together – makes the fall photoshoot all the more special.

The cutest little family!

Picking the Right Outfit

While there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to fall photoshoot attire, it’s essential to think about colors that complement the autumn palette. Earthy tones like deep reds, warm oranges, mustard yellows, and rich browns harmonize beautifully with the fall foliage backdrop. However, don’t be afraid to add pops of contrasting colors to create visual interest. At the end of the day, I want you to wear what makes you feel most comfortable – and most YOU.

Senior class 2025 Harrison Co High: Preston

Tis the season for senior pictures! Fall is upon us, and I love capturing the essence of these young adults during their senior year.

I truly couldn’t decide what to share from Preston’s senior session. He knew exactly what he wanted, from the props to the locations, which made my job easier. Senior portraits should reflect who you are in the moment and what you love. If you’re unsure about what to wear for your senior pictures, choose something that makes you feel comfortable and represents “you.” Incorporate the places and things you enjoy, whether they’re related to sports, hobbies, or even farm equipment. That’s exactly what Preston did.

Preston had his senior session on a farm in Berry, which made me feel like a country girl at heart. Country sessions are definitely my vibe! His look included all the staples of a farm boy: plaid shirts, Wrangler denim, and, of course, some sturdy work boots.

Lexington KY Newborn Photographer | Newborn Sessions

Newborn baby photography capturing these special moments for parents in Central KY. They are my favorite sessions to photograph. The opportunity that so many families have given me to document new life keeps me inspired. I never stop looking for unique props, different wraps, new hats… I like to keep all my newborn sessions fresh and innovative. Documenting newborns has become an obsession in my life. I am crazy about the details, I am crazy about the bond… Probably because I wasn’t a photographer when my girls were born, and I missed the tiny toes, the fuzzy shoulders, the long lashes… Missed capturing those, and so I make sure I capture them for you.  It goes by fast, and before you know it, I am sitting on your couch with your print order from your newborn session, and you are crying about how much your baby has changed…and it has only been 6 weeks.

When should I book the session?

I book by newborn sessions around 16 weeks. My newborn sessions book up fast, please contact me soon as possible.

How do I book a session?

Because of their unpredictability, I simply write down your due date in my calendar, and reserve you a spot a week after your due date. Most moms simply go ahead and send me a text message or email while they are still in the hospital, so that I know when the baby was born and can plan accordingly. For the mom’s with scheduled inductions and c-sections, a date can be booked ahead of time.

When do you photograph my newborn?

I prefer to capture newborns between 5 and 16 days old; when they are still easy to pose and most sleepy. Older than this, they tend to not “curl” as much and sleep less. This, and the fact that newborn acne and colic can usually flair by the 2-3 week mark, it is to my and your advantage to photograph them as soon as possible.

Can you come to my home?

I love getting personal, making use of your bedroom, your home… So, I do travel for lifestyle newborn sessions.  There is an added fee for an on-location newborn session.

How long does a session last?

The average session is 2 hours… Some are shorter, some are longer, it is really up to the baby.

What do I need for the session?

Just the baby and anyone or anything else special you want in the photo. I understand what it is like to be home with a newborn. Your job is to focus on your new baby. My job is to capture that new relationship.

If you plan on being in any of the photos I recommend a white, cream, black, or neutral color for the photos.

Please click the home button to return to my website and contact me to schedule your newborn session.

I had a model call on my Michelle Morgan Photography Facebook page in June. Arianna’s mommy had yet to find or schedule her newborn session. She contacted me about letting Arianna model for me. I was thrilled to have her come to the studio and dress her up in pretty little headbands, wrap her in colorful wraps, and the snuggles. It helps with the my baby fever.
